Abstract

Motorcycles are the most popular transportation in Indonesia, especially automatic motorcycle and also the biggest contributor to the air pollution. With different engine capacities and the fuel used not according to the manufacturer's recommendations, testing exhaust emissions on automatic motorcycles is interesting to study. By using the experimental method, samples of automatic injection motorcycles with an average service life of 5 years are tested for exhaust emissions with variations in engine capacity and different fuel octane number at various predetermined engine speeds. The results of testing and data analysis showed that the exhaust gas emissions produced were still below the emission threshold with the highest levels of HC 745 ppm and CO 1.08% at a variation of 125 cc using RON 90. Based on engine capacity, the highest HC is 456 ppm (125 cc, idle) and CO 1.11% (125 cc, 5000 rpm) with significant differences. Meanwhile, based on the octane number, the highest HC is 411 ppm (RON 90, idle) and CO is 0.51% (RON 92, idle) with no significant differences. Then the engine speed correlation with HC is significant, weak and in the opposite direction, while with CO it is not significant, very weak and in the opposite direction.
