Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to explore the perception of undergraduate English students towards emergency remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, data were obtained through interviews with four participants who were undergraduate English students at a private university. Interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results showed that online learning in the pandemic caused the negative perceptions from the students such as learning ineffectiveness, lazy, bored and sleepy. the students also encountered various challenges such as unstable connections, disturbed by noise, and the lack of communication. Keywords : COVID-19, perception, undergraduate English students, online learning ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi persepsi mahasiswa sarjana bahasa Inggris terhadap pembelajaran jarak jauh darurat selama pandemi COVID-19. Dalam penelitian ini, data diperoleh melalui wawancara dengan empat partisipan yang merupakan mahasiswa S1 Bahasa Inggris di sebuah universitas swasta. Data wawancara dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis tematik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran daring di masa pandemi menimbulkan persepsi negatif dari siswa seperti pembelajaran tidak efektif, rasa malas, bosan dan mengantuk. para siswa juga menghadapi berbagai tantangan seperti koneksi yang tidak stabil, terganggu oleh kebisingan, dan kurangnya komunikasi.
