Abstract
This research aims to identify the role of online teaching in encouraging students to learn English grammar and identify the teacher's role in encouraging students to learn English grammar. The research design applied to this research study is a descriptive qualitative approach in nature, using interviews and observations. The source of data in this research was an English teacher at SMPN 2 Candi Laras Selatan. The data was taken through direct observation and interviews with English teachers. The results reveal that students prefer to take classes offline rather than online. There are also many technical obstacles that make students who are initially excited about taking online lessons then become less enthusiastic, one of which is the internet. And not all students have adequate devices to run online lectures. Regarding the method used, namely, sending short and interesting learning materials is a good way to start, but it will still make students bored if it is done continuously.
