Abstract

Idioms helps learners to enrich their understanding in learning language especially for English. Failure to understand idioms in context significantly affects one’s understanding of language in various personal and professional situations. This study used a collective cross-sectional case study research design. This research employs a semi-structured interview to investigate how the students learn idioms. Thematic analysis was used for this research to explore the data from semi-structured interviews. The result revealed that EFL university students in Banjarbaru utilized various strategies to learn and understand idioms.
