Abstract

Reading comprehension is the ability to understand the content of a reading. Reading comprehension means studying the reading material more carefully so that it can assess the situation, value, function and effect of reading. Some of the students argue that United Kingdom is a very foreign language to them, they lack vocabulary mastery, and rely too much on technology such as google translate when doing homework, thus reducing their understanding of the text they read. The purpose of teaching reading is so that students can read efficiently and effectively. This research is a qualitative research. In this type of research, researchers collect, classify, analyze, and draw conclusions based on data without generalizing. This study uses an interview research design. The researchers used semi-structured interviews to gain an in-depth understanding of the participants' experiences. The research arrangement will take place in one of the secondary schools in Kuranji. Kuranji is a sub-district in Tanah Bumbu Regency. There are two types of strategies used by english language teachers to teach reading comprehension into a type of descriptive text, namely by using the Interactive Instruction and Independent Learning strategies. The problems faced by teachers in teaching reading comprehension are time management, students who rely too much on translation tools, there are students who lack motivation to learn United Kingdom and lack of vocabulary. The strategy used by teachers in teaching reading comprehension for a type of text is to use the Interactive Instruction strategy where teachers conduct small group discussions to facilitate the learning process of reading comprehension together in 1 different team, meaning different types of texts in each team.
