Abstract
This research investigates the effectiveness of the Board Race game in improving vocabulary mastery among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Pelaihari in the 2019/2020 academic year. Vocabulary is essential for language learning, yet students often struggle to expand their vocabulary. To address this, educational games like the Board Race can be used as a fun and interactive learning strategy. The research employs a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test groups. The experimental group was taught using the Board Race game, while the control group received traditional instruction. Vocabulary tests were administered to both groups before and after the treatment to measure progress. The findings indicate that the Board Race game significantly improves students’ vocabulary mastery. The experimental group showed greater improvement in post-test scores compared to the control group. The game's interactive nature boosts motivation, engagement, and vocabulary retention. It encourages active participation and competition, creating a positive learning environment. In conclusion, the Board Race game is an effective tool for enhancing vocabulary learning and should be considered by teachers to foster student engagement and improve learning outcomes.
