Abstract
The importance of written corrective feedback has been an issue of substantial debate in the literature, and this controversial issue has led to a development in the latest studies to draw on foreign language acquisition research as a way to further comprehend the complexities of this issue. Feedback from teachers is the backbone of students’ learning experiences and helps them stem their errors early on. This study aims to identify the problem of students’ perceptions of corrective feedback given by teachers in essay writing for English Education majors on campus. The participants in this study were undergraduate students from a private university in Banjarmasin, aged between 20 and 22 years old. In addition, the research design used qualitative research, and data was also obtained from the results of semi-structured interviews online. The results of this study found that students have a positive attitude towards feedback. The feedback provided by teachers can encourage and support them to better understand the task and improve their knowledge and ability to write essays. In addition, corrective feedback can also be used to analyze what grammatical errors are made when writing essays. Written corrective feedback is a very important learning model to improve students’ motivation and English learning outcomes. In addition, there are two factors that influence the participants’ vocabulary learning experience, which consist of (a) students’ perception of the corrective feedback written by the teacher in their essay writing and (b) students’ preference for the type of written corrective feedback during the learning process.
