Abstract

Besides teaching and learning activities, the teaching practice program is shifted from face-to-face learning to online learning. Changing the learning system from face-to-face learning to online learning has many challenges. Especially in teaching listening teachers must be creative in choosing materials and be able to stimulate the interest students. This research aims to find out the challenges faced English service-teacher in teaching listening comprehension during online learning and find out the strategies to overcome the challenges. This research method uses a qualitative interview study. The result showed that there some challenges faced by service- teacher in teaching listening comprehension were these, teaching listening comprehension during online learning were these, students feel not familiar with listening learning, students’ limited skill in English vocabulary, unsupportive learning environment learning for students, the service-teacher still not optimal in teaching performance and lack of classroom management. The strategies to overcome the challenges in teaching listening during online learning are; provide a lot of learning activities and also be able to create interesting learning activities, the service-teacher handled the students by using Indonesian language to explain the way how to listen or the way of learning process, and gives a lot of practice regarding listening learning, consults and asks for directions from tutors and supervisors.
