Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the incidence (ARI) in developing countries with mortality rates above 40 per 1000 people is 15% -20% per year in the elderly. This study aims to determine the relationship between the physical condition of the house and the presence of smokers in the house with the incidence of ARI in the elderly in the working area of the South Banjarbaru Health Center, Banjarbaru City. The research method is an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. In this study, the research population was all the elderly who visited the South Banjarbaru Health Center, totaling 78 people during January to April 2021. The sample was 78 respondents. The sampling technique/sampling method used in this research is saturated sampling or census. Statistical test using Chi square test. The results of statistical tests showed that there was no relationship between home ventilation and the incidence of ARI in the elderly (p-value = 0.562 > 0.05). There is no relationship between house humidity and the incidence of ARI in the elderly (p-value= 0.764 > 0.05). There is no relationship between the type of floor of the house with the incidence of ARI in the elderly (p-value = 0.060 > 0.05). There is no relationship between house lighting and the incidence of ARI in the elderly (p-value= 0.724 > 0.05). There is no relationship between the ceiling of the house with the incidence of ARI in the elderly (p-value = 0.684 > 0.05). There is no relationship between the walls of the house with the incidence of ARI in the elderly. There is no relationship between bedroom occupancy density and the incidence of ARI in the elderly (p-value = 1,000 > 0.05). There is a relationship between the presence of smokers in the house with the incidence of ARI in the elderly (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05). It is hoped that the public can increase knowledge about the importance of the problem of ARI disease, the causes and impacts that can occur due to ARI.
