Abstract

This research aims to determine the physical properties and quality of bricks due to the addition of a mixture of boiler ash as a cement substitute. The test specimens used in making compressive strength samples of concrete blocks used 36x8x14 cm brick molds with a composition of 1: 4, variations of test objects, namely without the addition of boiler ash, and bricks with additional boiler ash of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% of cement requirements. Testing includes compressive strength test results. The average value was 20,080 kg/cm2 for bricks without additional boiler ash, while for levels of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% the results were respectively 21,745 kg/cm2, 11,881 kg/cm2, 10,207 kg/cm2. cm2 and 6.693 kg/cm2. The test results showed that by adding boiler ash to the bricks, there was an increase in the average compressive strength of the boiler ash by 5%, then there was a decrease in the average compressive strength of the boiler ash by 10% to 20%. The highest compressive strength occurs at 5% boiler ash and the higher the additional boiler ash, the compressive strength will decrease. Bricks with boiler ash variations of 0% and 5% are included in brick quality level IV, while those with boiler ash variations of 10%, 15% and 20% are not included in brick quality level.
